Research

My research program is centered around two basic themes, the evolution of fishes and the theory and practice of phylogenetic systematics. At present I am concentrating on the evolution of higher teleost fishes as part of a collaborative All Tree of Life (AToL) project where my team is working on the morphological evolution while other labs are analyzing development and the molecular systematics. I also have interests in speciation and biogeography and how we can integrate phylogeny and biogeography with the latest techniques in biodiversity modeling.
