ISSS Orientation

New International Student Orientation is a program designed to ease your transition to the U.S. and to KU. Graduates and undergraduates, first-time and transfers—all international students new to KU will benefit from this program. Althought orientation is not required, we highly encourage all new students to participate.

Why is Orientation Important?

  • Meeting new people - make friends & Learn about KU campus and the U.S.
  • Welcome packet including information about KU and Lawrence
  • Complete required immigration, health, and English proficiency check-in processes before non-orientation students.
  • Receive personal attention and support from Orientation and ISSS Staff Program Activities.
  • Free shuttles to local banks, shops, and restaurants
  • Informational sessions: Staying Legal in the U.S., Enrollment Processes at KU, classroom expectations, cultural adjustment, healthcare and health insurance, safety, etc.
  • Learning how to become a KU Jayhawk!
Fall 2009 Orientation
  • August 9-14
  • Detailed information about Orientation and pricing is available on the PDF version of the Orientation Reservation. To register via mail, you can fill out the form and mail it with payment enclosed.
  • If you arrive after August 9th, go to the International Student & Scholar Services Office, room 2 Strong Hall between 8 am and 5 pm as soon as possible.
  • Option 1 - $225 ($235 after July 17) Includes housing fee of $125.
  • Option 2 - $100 ($110 after July 17)
  • If you register and pay online, there will be a 6% Transaction Fee added to your total charges
  • Housing will not be reserved for you if you do not send payment. Housing can not be guaranteed for reservations received after August 1. If housing is no longer available when your payment is received, you will be swtched to Option #2 and you will be refunded the housing cost.
